Day 4
This day was mostly really nice. I started in Winningen and walked through the vineyards up to some nice viewpoints. Only around the highway there was a lot of garbage on the path, bad smells and the street noise, but that was only for a short while. Later that day I was “attacked” by lots of those little black “flying worms”, don’t know what they are... they don’t bite, but they made me itchy everywhere, which was difficult to ignore.
I pushed through and resisted the temptations to steal fruit from the farmers on the way, even though especially the cherries looked extremely tempting. I arrived in Andernach around 3pm, took a shower and a short nap. Then I went out to check out the beautiful town and grab some - well deserved ;) - dinner.
DAY 5
The next day was long! Over 40 km. It was still a fun hike for the most part, but the last around 10km I left the trail I was on and walked a long a bicycle path to Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler. That was quiet depressing as my ankles started hurting pretty bad and all those bicycles passed me and were so much faster than me...
I had go that way and freestyle a little bit, because I didn't find a good (and cheap) place to sleep along the original trail. In Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler I found a nice youth hostel and when I arrived they even had a nice cold "Radler" (shandy - beer with lemonade) for me. Overall the day was fun and I was proud of myself at the end.
DAY 6
The final day... This was also not part of the original track and I had to freestyle my way to my friend in Bonn. First I did some warm-up sight-seeing in Ahrweiler which is a little town with an old city wall and quite nice buildings.
After that I mostly succeeded staying of roads and walking along little paths between fields and in forests. The final stretch was a big forrest, with mostly completely straight roads. There you had the feeling that you didn't make any progress as you could walk for an hour and it would mostly look the same...
On that day I was surprised by rain twice, but I was lucky that a third time with pretty heavy rain, I was just in a supermarket buying some snacks.
I was happy, that I was done at the end and that my friends directly offered me to shower ... I think it was a common interest ;)
